prototype 8 - animations

For this weeks prompt we played a short bidding game over a selection of cool procedural animations by https://www.instagram.com/polyhop/

I saw this one where the space was being split and was really excited to make some sort of qix-like.

I’ve been wanting to make something more arcadey / “uppercase V Video Game” for a while now, but been defaulting to either doing nice looking unity scenes or too conceptual stuff. I decided to basically impolement the video, then see what kind of game I could make with it if I had time.

I put it up on playtest thursday, with the cursor automatically splitting the screen every once in a while, and people did compare it to qix and said it was meditative. Some people suggested some games, and I kinda wanted to make a multiplayer games that uses a single cursor (which could be fun in the dual trackball arcade)

After that I just decided to add some snakes, because my other video had some snakes, and I thought it looked pretty cool.

Then I just decided to instead of commiting to a particular game, keep it as a toy and juice it up. Added some particles, screenshake and some small animations (look at that beautiful cursor)

It was a very fun project, good to get more used to godot, learned a bunch and was extremely excited to do stuff in it. Probably the one I’ve spent the most time so far, and very excited to keep working on it. Still considering wether the switch to godot is a good one or if I should just straight up switch to some js thing like p5, right now the biggest benefits seems to be the curve editor in godot and some niceties. idk, lets keep playing with godot for now. Excited for the next project.

edit: very hard to embed the gifs on this post, sorry
